Aeromodelling
These models help us understand the science of aerodynamics, the forces of lift and thrust, and how real aircraft operate.
Aeromodelling: Level - Junior
Start your journey into aviation with an exciting, hands-on flight course designed for young minds! This beginner program introduces students to how planes fly, why wings work, and how aircraft are built. Students discover basic science and engineering by making their own model planes from scratch, building confidence, hands-on skills, and a passion for STEM along the way.
- Age Group
- 9-11 years (Grades 4-5).
Aim
To give young students a simple, fun introduction to flight by helping them build and fly three different model planes: a static display model, and flying glider.
Course Description
- Introduction to Aeromodelling & History of Flying Objects
- Classification of Aircraft
- Primary Parts of an Aircraft and Their Core Functions
- Construction & Assembly of a Non-Flying Static Display Model
- Building a Glider & Launching Techniques
- Assembly and Balancing of a Free-Flight Glider
- Flight Testing, Launch Performance Analysis
Kits
The course includes an entry-level fabrication kit featuring lightweight, pre-cut components tailored for young builders. The package includes:
- Static Model KitPre-cut structural parts for assembling a display-ready scale model.
- Flying Glider ModelA free-flight glider featuring a 75 cm wingspan.
Course Benefits
- Understand basic aviation terms, aircraft types, and fundamental aerodynamic principles.
- Identify primary structural components and control surfaces on model aircraft.
- Build, balance, and fine-tune static, catapult, and glider models using basic hand tools.
- Apply concepts of weight distribution and center of gravity to achieve stable flight paths.
- Develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skill precision, and patience through hands-on crafting.
- Inspire lifelong curiosity in aerospace engineering, STEM subjects, and creative tinkering.
